The first Blogg on life at sea & Fitzroy Island

Last night we slept onboard Looking Good again, first time in months for me at least. Trev has been over there cleaning off mould but I have stayed ashore. I MISS IT. Life on the Ocean Wave it is great! This time last year we were sailing for Morris Island in the Coral Sea on our way North to Thursday Island.

Trev’s best catch today

That was a delightful meal cooked on the bbq on back of yacht.

Now here I am sitting in the garden dreaming of our next trip! It won’t be longI’m sure. Need to do some work on the yacht & think about trading in for 1 with at least an anchor winch to save trev the morning exercise of pulling the real heavy thing up before we can sail off.

Our last day sailing on the yacht was Valentines day when we went over to Fitzroy Island for weekend that was great but made us want to keep going not come back to raelity & Cairns! Fitzroy is the BEST place to go close to Cairns where you can be on your own desert island.

It is only a 45min ferry ride if you don’t have your own transport! You’ll need to walk around to Nudey Beach to escape the comercialism that has evoled over the years & has now resulted in a big 5* resort which has gone broke before opening! The resort is said to be opening soon, as long as it has reasonably priced cold beer incase you run out of what you take in your esky!! The swimming & snorkelling are really good on the northern end of Nudey Beach. First impression on arrival by ferry can be less than exciting as at low tide the beach is covered with dead pieces of coral near the jetty. However the slightly vigourous 20min walk to Nudey will make up for it. On the way keep your eye out for large fat skinkes (legless lizards) sunning themselves & bush turkeys trying to scratch up & redesign the footpath. Great birdlife too. One evening we saw a Sea Eagle come down to the shoreline & have a saltwater bath!! Lovely to watch.

Well that’s it for today then.
